Each individual advances at their own rate. Belt promotions are not awarded based on length of time in the program or on age. Belts are awarded when an individual’s knowledge and skill level rise to an appropriate level as determined by the instructor. Within each belt rank, there are four levels, indicated by white stripes on the bar at the end of the belt. While promotions are not based strictly on time, there are minimum class attendance requirements in order to be eligible to be considered for promotion. For kids a minimum of 20 classes must be attended, and for adults a minimum of 40 classes.
